Getting our VOICES heard

Stoke Expert Citizens took part in a recent event at the YMCA in Hanley called ‘Your Vote Matters’. Voter turnout in both local and national elections is far higher for homeowners compared to those living in social housing, temporary, or emergency accommodation.

Taking an active role in the event,
Lindsey contributed a wide range of experience in homelessness, mental health, addiction and offending and felt participants gained a lot from the training.
Lindsey said ‘The aim is to encourage the homeless and those in supported housing to vote in local and national elections. Politicians have more reasons to act in the interests of people that use their right to vote.’

The workshop also included exercises on how to empower people when dealing with a wide range of local organisations that provide services such as those delivered by the voluntary sector, Housing Associations, and the Council.
